Late wickets leave Prior thrilled

Matt Prior scored a quick-fire 82 to lift England to a total of 465.

Matt-PriorMatt Prior believes the second Test has swung in England's favour after the tourists took three late wickets to leave New Zealand on 66-3 at the close of the second day.

Peter Fulton, Hamish Rutherford and Ross Taylor all perished after tea when the Black Caps responded to England's first-innings total of 465 in Wellington.

A revitalised Stuart Broad, with the wind at his back, took two wickets to leave England at 1.72 to win the second Test, while New Zealand can be backed at 41.00 and the draw at 2.20.

Broad struck twice in two balls, removing Rutherford and Taylor while James Anderson dismissed Fulton.

Earlier in the day England had slipped to 325-5 after resuming on 267-2 and only Kevin Pietersen's 73 and Prior's 82 off just 99 balls lifted them to their formidable total. New Zealand's Bruce Martin finished with impressive figures of 4-130 from 48 overs.

An upbeat Prior said: "It ended up a pretty good day for us. Those late wickets swung it in our favour but it's very important we come in hard (on day three) and try to force the advantage we have.

"When I first came in (to bat) it was time to buckle in a little bit. We wanted to make sure we batted long and make sure we got a very good score on the board, which we ended up doing."
