Lescott targets FA Cup glory

joleon-lescottManchester City defender Joleon Lescott insists he would gladly swap clean sheets for success in the FA Cup this season.

Lescott has found games in the competition much easier to come by than nailing down a regular starting slot in the Premier League this term.

Lescott has also been part of a rearguard action that is yet to concede a single goal on their way to reaching the semi-finals at Wembley.

City now await the winners of a replay between Chelsea and Manchester United, but should they maintain that statistic, they would be the first team since Bury achieved the remarkable feat way back in 1903. Roberto Mancini's men can be backed at 2.37 to win the famous old cup competition and 21.00 to win the Premier League title.

But as far as Lescott is concerned, lifting the trophy will be all that matters most.

The England centre-back insists: "We weren't aware of that statistic and we are always delighted to keep clean sheets, and even better if it gets you to a semi-final.

"But now we are at the business end of the competition and it's not about keeping clean sheets but winning games.

"We need to win the next two, and we have our name on that cup again. We won't be taking our foot off the pedal in the league, but we are determined to win this cup."
