Head coach Shaun Wane has heaped praise on winger Pat Richards, who made his 200th appearance for the club in Wigan Warriors' 38-0 win over Catalan Dragons.
Richards scored two tries and kicked five goals in the win, and is recognised as one of Super League's most prolific points scorers, but Wane says there's much more to Richards than just tries and goals.
"His try-scoring record is impressive, but what is very special is to make 200 appearances for Wigan. It's a marvellous achievement. We all like Paddy, he's an honorary Wiganer, and the club wants to do well for him," said Wane, who is in his second season as Wigan head coach.
"I have been at this club for a lot of years and I've seen some top Australians come through the doors, but Pat is honestly in the top three out of all of the ones I've played with and coached. On and off the field, he is that good."
The Warriors' win over the Dragons takes them to within a point of pace-setters Huddersfield at the top of the table, and Wane's men will look to keep up the pressure this Friday, when they travel to face Leeds. Wigan can be backed at 4.50 in the 2013 Challenge Cup outright winner market and 3.00 in the Super League regular season winner betting.
"I would take the nil every day and I was pleased with our defence against the Dragons," added Wane.
"They are a good team and are very skilful, but our defence for the majority of the game was good. It was a professional performance, but what's better is that I know we can improve."
