Conte Admits Juventus Must Defeat Copenhagen

Juventus coach Antonio Conte is confident ahead of his side’s vital Champions League Group game at home to Copenhagen on Wednesday.

The 44-year-old also revealed that Andrea Barzagli will not be back in time to face the Danish side after suffering an injury on international duty but may be in contention for the game against Udinese on December 1.

“The fact that we have to go out and win makes things difficult for us,” Conte told the press.

“I am calm, I have some great guys here with whom we have tackled challenges from both inside and outside over the past two and a half years.”

Conte also responded to the suggestion that the fans could possibly protest against a ban for offensive chants against Neapolitans at the Champions League game by sitting in silence for the entire 90 minutes:

“I’m not worried, I’ve always said that the fans are our secret weapon and I find it hard to even imagine a game without them,” he continued.

“It seems difficult to me to believe that they will abandon us in such a time of need.”

The Bianconeri tactician also sounded coy when asked about tactics.

“I don’t have a point of reference for the Champions League,” he said.

“We have used two different systems that have left us with one defeat and three draws.

“We play with the formation that gives us more security at the back and now it seems to me that the old system gives us more defensive stability.”

Conte also praised striker Fernando Llorente for his contributions after a difficult start to the season.

“Fernando has been very good,” he admitted.

“He arrived here a world and European champion and had the patience and desire to believe in his work.

“He is improving in every way and he can continue to improve even more.”
