Bale backed to rise to the challenge

gareth-bale-walesWales boss Chris Coleman has warned Scotland that they will be wasting their time if they try to rough up Gareth Bale during Friday's World Cup qualifier.

The Tottenham winger has joined up with the Wales squad ahead of their game against Gordon Strachan's men and then a tough test with Croatia next Tuesday.

Bale suffered an ankle knock during Spurs' surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Fulham on Sunday and is receiving round-the-clock treatment.

The north Londoners, 2.00 to finish in the top four this season, will insist their star man is not used if there is the slightest risk it could rule him out of the all-important Premier League run-in.

Bale's superb form this season has seen him come in for more physical attention from a host of defences. But, according to Coleman, Bale, will continue to rise to the challenge and will not be cowed into submission.

Coleman insists: "When he plays for Spurs or Wales there is an element of people kicking him. It's one way of trying to slow him down. He's under no illusions about that.

"The more he gets kicked and thrown about, the more determined he is to stick the ball in the net."

Wales are 26.00 to win Friday's match 2-0 while Scotland can be backed at 8.50 to edge the match 2-1.
